iTunes Organizer
When you have been adding music to your iTunes library for years, it can be hard to keep it organized. Going through all those songs on your own could take days of your time, but why bother when you can get an iTunes organizer software to do it automatically.
There are a couple different programs out there that can organize your iTunes library, but I’m going to tell you about the one that I think is the best. It is called Rinse (formerly TidySongs), and it has tons of features that will help you fix up your library in no time.
iTunes Organizer: Rinse Organizes Your Library Automatically
Here is a basic overview of what Rinse does:
- Fix Song Details Including Misspellings and Missing Details
- Finds and Removes Duplicates
- Renames and Consolidates Genres
- Adds Missing Album Artwork
- Option to Choose What Information is Updated
- Option to Skip Songs Based On User-Defined Terms
- Fix Songs By Playlist
- Fix Songs Manually One-By-One or Automatically
Rinse uses the data you already have attached to your songs and it looks them up in its intelligent database to correct any mistakes and add missing information. As long as you have one piece of correct information, Rinse will look it up and try to correct whatever mistakes are in the artist, song, album, genre, track number, and release year. It will also add missing album artwork.
The way it works is by showing you a confidence percentage that shows you how accurate it estimates the results to be. If it says 99%, it likely found the correct information, but if it says a low number such as 10%, it probably did not find the correct information. If you get a low result, you may want to manually fix that song to get better results.
Navigating the Rinse interface is easy. However, it may run a little slow at times depending on how many songs you are fixing at once. For well-known artist, the results usually appear within seconds. For some of the more obscure songs, it could take up to 30 seconds.
Rinse claims to have about an 85% success rate for identifying songs correctly. That may or may not be the case depending on what kinds of songs you have. If you listen to a lot of rare music, your success rate will probably be much lower. The Rinse database has over 4 million songs and they add to it all the time to improve the results.
One of the great things about this program is that it gives you options to control the entire process. You can choose what information to update and what information to leave alone. You can also choose to skip songs entirely. When removing duplicates, you can choose how it determines what songs are duplicates, and you can set it to flag them for your review if you like.
Another valuable feature is the option to organize your genres. Browsing by genre is pointless unless you songs are labeled correctly. Also, if you have too many genres in general, it may not be that useful to browse by genre. This is especially true if you have almost as many genres as you have songs. Using this program, you can consolidate and rename genres so you can control exactly how your songs are grouped and browse by genre more effectively.
The main advantage to using an iTunes organizer program like Rinse is that it can fix up your songs automatically. If you spend any time trying to organize your songs manually, you will quickly realize the value of automating the process. It is a very tedious task to go through your songs individually, and it takes a lot more time than you might realize.
Some of the helpful features that Rinse has to make the organizing process go more quickly is that it looks up songs for you, it lets you change all the information on one tab, rather than having to click several tabs in iTunes. It also links to Amazon so you can confirm that it has found the correct album. It is also helpful to refer to Amazon if you want to make any manual changes.
The Rinse iTunes organizer works on both Windows and Mac OS and requires Adobe Air for installation. Adobe Air is free and easy to download if you do not have it already.
